Massachusetts Marriage and Residency Attorneys
Marrying a United States national does not automatically make a foreign national spouse an American citizen. There are processes and procedures that must be followed by spouses and eligible children to obtain residency following foreign national marriages. Failure to follow protocol can result in removal.
At the REID & GAUDET Law Group, LLP, we provide understanding and compassionate counsel for individuals and families facing immigration and residency challenges following foreign national marriages. Contact us to protect your rights and your relationships. Se Habla Español Se Fala Português
As an immigration and family law firm, our clients represent diverse backgrounds, experiences and cultures. However, there is a common goal: to obtain residency in the United States.
Keeping Families Together
With family-based petitions, we work to bring families together or to keep families together by obtaining K-1 or K-3 visas. Also known as a fiancé visa, the K-1 is for foreign nationals who wish to marry their potential spouse in the United States. The K-3 visa is used to speed up the process of obtaining a green card for foreign nationals who married U.S. citizens abroad. If children are involved, the marriage must have occurred before the children reached age 16 for them to be covered by their parent's K-1 or K-3 visa.
With most residency petitions following foreign national marriages or engagements, the process typically takes about six months to complete. However, that time may vary based on circumstances and if consulate processing is involved.
Moving Forward With Citizenship
Our attorneys will listen to you and will work with you to obtain residency following foreign national marriage or pending engagement. If you find that you are facing separation or divorce or were involved in an abusive relationship, we can also assist you in moving forward with obtaining citizenship.
